01
Put your current loan on one page
Make a short summary of your balance, interest rate, repayments, remaining term and recurring fees. Note whether any part of the loan is fixed and when that fixed period ends. Add the features you actually use, such as an offset account or the ability to make extra repayments.
Then write one sentence about your goal. It might be a more manageable household budget, a different feature or simply understanding whether your current arrangement still suits you. That gives the conversation a clear starting point.
02
Compare the cost of changing
A new loan can involve discharge, application and other costs. Fixed-rate break costs may also apply. Ask for the relevant figures and compare them with the potential benefit over the time you expect to keep the loan.
Extending the loan term can reduce regular repayments while increasing total interest. Ask to see the comparison using the remaining term as well as any proposed new term. A smaller monthly figure alone does not show the full cost.
03
Bring the review back to your life
Before comparing options, tell TSA about plans that could change your needs: moving home, parental leave, a different work arrangement, or an expense you are planning for. Include your current commitments, rather than relying on the information from your original application.
- What would make the loan easier to live with?
- Which current features would you miss?
- How long do you expect to keep the property?
- Would you prefer to ask your current lender for a review first?
04
Ask for a clear comparison
A useful review should make it easy to see what changes and what stays the same. Ask your broker to explain the proposed repayments, fees, term and relevant conditions alongside your current position. Keeping your existing loan may be one outcome of the conversation.
There is no guaranteed saving or approval. The right next step depends on the assessment and your priorities. Start with your suburb and the reason for your review; you do not need to submit loan statements through this website.
